gosh... time really flies on the ship. i feel like i just came and now that i finally got used to the hot weather it's our last cruise in the Caribbean. we're moving to europe soon, still not sure about my transfer to QM2.
so ship life... lot's of work, way too little sleep and 0 partys so far. if you envy all the amazing places i get to visit, don't. so far i only saw ports and cruise terminals, been to the beach exactly 2 times in one month and only today i got to actually explore some of the port of call - curacao. not that i'm complaining, we have lot's of fun doing our job and the guests are amazing too. i just wish i had more free time to sleep properly and see more of the caribbean islands. we'll see how it goes once we do the crossing to europe...
i miss writing and sharing my crazy life with you, hope you haven't forgot about the stylist just yet! sending you greets and kisses from curacao!!!

Until We Meet Again
i thought that by now i'll know what to write but i have no clue... i guess i'm not as big on goodbyes as i thought i was. at this point i'm just excited to leave my old life and start something new, i was pretty tired of it already! hope it'll turn out to be the best decision i made in my life. if not... see you in 8 months.

Tailoring for Dummies
while gabrielle is asking herself "why fashion can't be art", i'm dealing with a whole other problem. closely observing this season's fashion weeks i noticed a phenomenon of epic proportions among many designers and their collections. it's called under design! this is actually old news but for some reason it started to disturb me more now than ever. i probably wouldn't even notice if we weren't talking about some of the highly praised design houses and their oh so loved and in my opinion overrated design chiefs.
what bothers me is how in some clothes or even whole collections there is no design what so ever. going trough runway images i often asked myself what was the designers input in this since i was looking at ordinary clothes you can find in any department store anywhere in the world. i mean i even have some of the pieces in my closet and you all know i'm not a big spender. so why in god's name would you pay hundreds of dollars for a basic top with a designer label if you can get practically the same thing in your local h&m, target or primark? quality aside of course - there are many quality options with acceptable prices. it's one thing to be a minimalist or a classic but a whole other if you design basic pieces that were designed about a million times before. what exactly is the designers aesthetic than? choosing a more or less interesting fabric is hardly called designing now is it?
i never thought i could be a fashion designer since my ideas are very poor and limited to what i've already seen, but man i bet i could put together a basic sweater or a top. i could take any sweater from my closet and simply make it in a different fabric. fantastic right?
don't get me wrong some of these clothes are beautiful, i'm just confused what exactly did the designer do in the process of designing since these cuts were the first thing he learned in design school and can also be found in instruction manuals such as "tailoring for dummies". i know not everyone can be like mcqueen when it comes to design and tailoring but for god's sake make some effort would you! at least spice it up with the styling or make it a chewbacca thing like karl did a few seasons ago...
i'm interested in your opinion! am i completely of track here? or just simply expecting too much?
by marlene birger
this is a classical example of under design. the collection is full of basic pieces we've seen times and times again and what makes it even worse is the horrible styling. what the hell is up with that? all together it looks like how a 6 year old would describe his fancy aunt that he doesn't really see that much. oh, i can't get over the pearls!! have to... look... away!
christian siriano
pretty much the same goes for christian siriano. the whole collection is just one huge blah! there are some interesting fabric choices but that hardly makes it up for the lack of creativity and design. moving on...
chrisopher lemaire
military uniform from the 40s, jeans and a pajama. great thinking! why had nobody though of that before?? i get the depressed mood and everything but seriously so much could be done with just a bit more imagination put into the styling.
marc jacobs
i know marc jacobs is a genius for some but seriously, there's nothing special about this. same cut in all the coats and jackets, only difference being the color, fabric and number of buttons. genius! and than a very basic pencil and a-line skirt, a sweater you can buy literally anywhere and pajamas again. it all looks so old! who want's to look like their grandma? choosing a sparkly fabric doesn't make it any more modern. as a stylist i would never pull a marc jacobs on a person. sincerely i liked him much better before the rehab. maybe that wasn't the best career choice for him.
rochas
miss plain jane is who the rochas girls is. paul smith at least had the decency of choosing some color but this is just too boring! these models look like they're on a death row. nothing appealing about that!
saint laurent
wow, so many things gone wrong! maybe the biggest being that this collection simply looks cheap. would you ever associate ysl with cheap? me neither! i have nothing against grunge, i love it actually, but done in a sophisticated way, not like you just pulled an old topshop jumper from a pile of clothes that haven't been washed since kurt was still smelling like a teen spirit. and did you spot the pearl necklaces? what's with the pearls again?? is that how you make up for being trashy instead of classy? so disappointed!

i saw all these pieces seasons ago in one of the department stores i used to borrow clothes from. the demographic of it being women over 50 (no offence to them). paul smith used to have such beautiful collections with hip and youthful stylings, i have no idea what stole his modjo?!marc jacobs

Fly with Style
i never took a flight longer than 2 hours so i'm facing a huge challenge here. what do you wear for 20 hours of travel, 4 different airports, 3 flights and 2 completely different climates? first thing that pops to mind is something comfy. naturally! something warm that can be taken off as soon as i land in sunny puerto rico. i searched for some inspiration during which i found out that celebs don't necessarily travel all that cozy. skinny jeans, high heels and tailored blazers don't really read comfortable in my opinion...
i love anja rubik's style the most but i would love it anywhere anytime, airport or no not. the queen of airport style has to be no other than victoria beckham. she couldn't care less about comfort, airports are crawling with paparazzi anyway... and i'm not even gonna post lady gaga's outfits couse that's just ridiculous. no one travels in alexander mcqueen! i think i'll just stick to my sweatpants...

Fair Winds and Godspeed, Yo ho ho and a Bottle of Rum
in my mind i have changed the beginning of this post about a hundred times already. it should start with a boom and a mandatory omg moment but then again my excitement faded a little bit since thursday night when i finally got THE email and almost shit my pants. you can imagine me jumping and screaming cause that's exactly what happened. my parents downstairs thought it was an earthquake to say the least. nope, it's just me finally being assigned to a ship. aside from the fact that i finally know where i'll be sailing i was thrilled as a pop corn machine because i thought i'd be on my way to puerto rico at this exact moment. obviously i'm still sitting firmly on my ass that aches of some unexplained pain and cherishing my last days with unlimited wifi... nothing ever goes as planned at least not when it comes to image group and it's logistics. it's like they're sending us on mars. i bet nasa has less medical exams than ship's crew members do. but ok... i guess it's important to know if i have a steady balance. gosh how many drunk nights come to mind at this point...
so you're probably wondering where i'll be making a fool of myself for the next 8 months... some serious ship will go down, i promise you that! ok, enough with the comedy routine... after a few more days ashore next saturday i'll finally board on my new home "brilliance of the seas" in san juan. i'll be sailing around the caribbean (virgin islands, antigua, guadaloupe, st. lucia, barbados,...) till mid april than i'll transfer to the queen of all ships an ocean liner queen mary 2. it's like the almighty gods of the seas with their tri-iPads* heard my rum jokes and wishful thinking upon which they decided to send me to the promise land. i just can't wait to get into my pirate costume and "ohoy matey" the shit out of guests. yes, photographers also have to wear silly costumes to get attention and pose with guests which is actually what i really look forward to since i'm a native pirate speaker. rum drinker too (well actually rum is one of the rare alcohol beverages i can't even smell let alone drink)! anyway... back to the ship... QM2 is an ocean liner so guess what? i'll be crossing oceans a lot. atlantic ocean the be precise. my route will mainly be hamburg - southampton - nyc and back with a few cruises to norway and it's north cape, scotland, ireland, belguim and new england in canada. my german was obviously convincing enough even though i didn't practice it since ever actually. my skype interview with an elderly german gentleman was so funny! at first he didn't get the time difference between miami and slovenia so we immediately start laughing, ha ha ha. at the end i barely understood some questions but i faked it and i made it.
hamburg - southampton - ncy. i'll make sure to find lovers in all these ports. it's not as exotic as cruising around south america, asia and polynesia but it's exciting enough for the first contract (not referring to lovers). i'll actually be in nyc for my birthday and i couldn't wish for anything more. the ships dock in the middle of manhattan how crazy is that!!? can't wait to stroll down times square and chase the squirrels in central park for eating my hot dog. you know, do everyday things in freakin new york city!!
so... only a few more days my dear readers and than this blog will have some serious vacation time. it was about time, no? well i hope you weren't bored with it too much and you'll come back even if the closest i'll get to fashion we'll be the delightful prom queen inspired dresses on formal nights. i'll try to update as much as possible but i'm not promising any miracles as i'll have many sea days aka days with no horizon and even worse no internet connection!!. i don't want to spam the blog with crazy ship life, juicy crew stories and awesome destination photos anyway... if you're interested in all that nonsense make sure you follow me on instagram, where i'll be posting all of that more frequently. if you're already nosy about how this shit ...ups! ship thing looks like, check out the links in this post. also... i will fucking miss you like crazy!!
* tri-iPad is a mighty device - a fusion of tripod and ipad, a genius idea by me and my fellow cruise ship photographer. don't steal it though, poseidon will get mad!

Anja Taking Over LFW
after slovenian model domination at new york fashion week i was pretty sure we'd see them fighting for attention in london. to my surprise that was not the case. there was only one model who really stood out and represented our little chicken shaped country. she's already an old acquaintance of london's catwalks not making it easier for any newcomers...
anja korošec @ immortal models
except her mother agency in slovenia she's signed with first model management in london, münich models, ice models in milano and model genesis in hongkong. i think it's safe to say her career took off when she became supermodel of slovenia for supermodel of the world back in 2009. today she's well know with all the big designer names in slovenia and has landed covers at magazines like elle and modna. she has also shoot for asos and luxury department store harrods.

Sexy & Spiced with Rock'n'Roll
the photoshoot last friday was everything and more than i expected. it took some time to get into the groove after such a long time but after i got in there was no letting me out! our model was the edgy girl from slovenian reality show agencija milano - ines. we decided on a sexy look for her spiced with a bit of rock'n'roll. just the way i like it. the stylings were actually pretty simple with a few strong pieces like those over-the-knee boots. yes, i had to use them. since it was a shoot for her book i had all the freedom with the styling which meant i could finally express my point of view aka have all the fun in the world! i bet you can see me in all the outfits below...
